Kurt Smith is the founder of Smith Legal Group and serves as Lead Counsel and dedicated Trial Attorney, focusing almost exclusively on family law. With a deep commitment to protecting families through some of life's most challenging transitions, Kurt brings a well-rounded legal background that includes civil litigation, personal injury, criminal law, and estate planning — giving him a strategic edge that extends far beyond the courtroom.

Known for his sharp legal instincts and compassionate approach, Kurt leverages his extensive knowledge and trial experience to fiercely advocate for his clients' rights, whether negotiating a settlement or litigating before a judge. His ability to anticipate opposing strategies and think several steps ahead has earned him a reputation as a tenacious and trustworthy advocate for Nevada families.

Kurt earned his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas — one of the premier law schools in the Mountain West — giving him deep roots in Nevada's legal community. Since earning his license in 2007, he has been an active and standing member of the Nevada State Bar (bar #10764), building nearly two decades of courtroom experience in Clark County and beyond.

Education

Kurt holds a Juris Doctorate, along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from UNLV with an emphasis in Management Information Systems. This combination of legal education and business expertise provides him with a strong foundation in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making. These skills directly translate into his success as a trial attorney, enabling him to approach complex cases with precision, develop strong legal strategies, and deliver results for his clients in a wide range of legal matters.

Experience

Prior to founding Smith Legal Group, Kurt Smith was an associate at a prominent national firm, focusing on civil litigation and insurance law. He also worked as a Project Manager for IBM in its Global Services Division, where he managed information security projects for Fortune 500 companies and played a key role in IBM’s globalization efforts, deploying technology solutions in Argentina, Brazil, France, Scotland, and India.

Kurt spent several years in the insurance industry as an insurance adjuster, specializing in on-scene accident investigations and accident reconstruction. This diverse background has provided him with experience in commercial litigation, personal injury, insurance law, corporate law, criminal law, estate planning, and bankruptcy.

With over 15 years of Trial experience, Kurt has built a reputation for his extensive courtroom expertise and a strong track record of success. His strategic and meticulous Trial approach has resulted in measurable victories for his clients across a wide range of legal matters.

Kurt’s practice is built on the principles of community and family, with a “children first” approach in all Family Law matters, ensuring that families and their needs remain at the forefront of every case.
